Baby's Eyesight Timeline

When First Born:
~Can only see 8-15 inches in front of them
~They can detect light, shapes, and litle movement
Ex. They can see their mom or dad when they are being bottle fed or breast fed.

1-2 Months:
~They can consistently focus both eyes
~See color from birth
~Can only distinguish bright/bold colors such as orange, red, black and white
Ex. Most of babies toys are bright or bold enough for them to recognize what they are.

4 Months:
~Develop better depth perception, guess how far away an object is
Ex. They can detect when their mom or dad is getting farther away

5 Months:
~Get better at spotting small items
~Beginning to work on more subtle differences in pastels
Ex. Can recognize the difference between colors of their toys and different things in the room

Finally Arriving at 8 Months:
~Everything is more clear
~Much better depth perception
~Close to final color
Ex. The baby can almost see just as clear as an adult could.
